Nano Banana Pro vs GPT Image 2
Google's Nano Banana Pro and OpenAI's GPT Image 2 ran the same six prompts: a poster, a recipe card, a portrait, a product shot, an edit of an uploaded photo and a busy street at night. Here is what each one made, how they differ, and what an image costs on each. In short: GPT Image 2 was stronger on dense text and on keeping an uploaded photo intact, and Nano Banana Pro made the more natural portrait.

Six prompts on Nano Banana Pro and GPT Image 2
Each pair is the first image each model returned for the same prompt, at a 1:1 aspect ratio and 1K. Pick a prompt to see both results.
A vintage travel poster for a coastal town called "Port Alder". Big headline "PORT ALDER", a smaller line "Ferries daily · Since 1924", a lighthouse at sunset, flat screen-print style.
Both models spelled both lines correctly. Nano Banana Pro went for a worn, printed texture; GPT Image 2 for a painted sunset.

Google · 1KBoth lines spelled right, on a worn screen-print texture with a beam of light.
GPT Image 2
OpenAI · 1KBoth lines spelled right, in a painted sunset scene with a ferry.
A recipe card for "Lemon Ricotta Pancakes" with the title, five numbered ingredients and three short steps, small hand-drawn lemons in the corners, cream paper background.
GPT Image 2 kept to five numbered ingredients and three steps. Nano Banana Pro added three unnumbered ingredients.
Nano Banana Pro
Google · 1KTitle and steps are right, but it lists eight ingredients instead of five numbered ones.
GPT Image 2
OpenAI · 1KExactly five numbered ingredients and three steps, with lemons in every corner.

Keep the mug exactly as it is. Place it on a wet black rock beside a small waterfall, with morning mist in the background.
Both models started from the same uploaded photo: the GPT Image 2.5 Flare mug from test 3 on the best AI image models page. GPT Image 2 kept the mug's shape; Nano Banana Pro made it smaller, with a thinner handle.

A night market in the rain, at least six food stalls with different hand-painted signs, people holding umbrellas, neon reflections on the wet ground, wide shot.
Both filled the street with rain, umbrellas and neon. GPT Image 2's signs are all different; Nano Banana Pro repeated one.

Nano Banana Pro vs GPT Image 2: which to pick by job and price
Pick GPT Image 2 for anything with a lot of text, like menus, recipe cards and labels, and for edits where your product must stay unchanged. Pick Nano Banana Pro when a photo of a person needs to feel natural and unposed. Price is the other half of the decision: GPT Image 2 costs less at every resolution, with the widest gap at 1K, as the table at the top shows.
Nano Banana Pro vs GPT Image 2 FAQ
Not across the board. In our six tests GPT Image 2 did better on the recipe card, the photo edit and the night market, Nano Banana Pro made the more natural portrait, and the poster and the product shot were even. Looked at as GPT Image 2 vs Nano Banana Pro on price, GPT Image 2 also costs less at every resolution.
GPT Image 2, at every resolution. A GPT Image 2 image costs 6 credits at 1K, 10 at 2K and 20 at 4K. Nano Banana Pro costs 20 at 1K or 2K and 25 at 4K.
GPT Image 2, yes. A new account gets 10 free credits, which covers a GPT Image 2 image at 1K. A Nano Banana Pro image costs 20 credits, more than the free credits, so trying it needs a credit pack or a plan. Free images carry a watermark and are for personal use.
Nano Banana Pro is Google's Gemini 3 Pro Image model. GPT Image 2 is OpenAI's image model. AI Image Studio is an independent site that gives you both in one place, next to models from ByteDance and xAI.
Both go up to 4K, and at 4K the price gap is small: 25 credits for Nano Banana Pro against 20 for GPT Image 2. Our tests ran at 1K, so they say nothing about fine detail at 4K: run your own image at 4K on both before a print run.
